We are two book clubs actually. Due to enthusiastic participation of our members and the wish of others to jump in, we have spun a spin off! The ChickLits will join us for social events so we can share our thoughts and plan our future reads together. It remains to be seen whether we will read the same books or whether the ChickLits will choose their own reads.
We try to choose books of value that we might not have chosen had it not been for the book club.
We like to include both fiction and non-fiction, Canadian and world, classics and books of current interest.
We meet once a month, and read 10 books a year. At our June meeting (the "AGM"), we have a lively discussion of books to read for the following year. We find that, knowing which books are upcoming helps us to locate and share copies, and/or to read a book when the mood strikes.
Before each meeting, we look at a list of questions (often found on the most excellent Reader's Guide series), to facillitate discussion. The questions sometimes encourage thought and discussion - and sometimes are not at all necessary!
Meetings are held from 1:00-3:00 on the Tuesday of the month closest to the 'ides' - hence the name of our Mother book club!
The rosters for both groups for the 2023-2024 season!
